célébrant anniversaire de la naissance 150e 'Gurudev!

"When one knows thee, then alien there is none, then no door is shut. Oh, grant me my prayer that I may never lose touch of the one in the play of the many."

The lines I have quoted above is from Rabindranath Tagore’s famous poetic collection called ‘Gitanjali’. He was called 'Gurudev' which means 'Divine Mentor'. He was a great Bengali poet, Musician, Painter, Novelist and a Playwright who with his 'magical touch' reformed the Bengali literature and Music. As a person who has never had a chance to experience or to learn about the great Indian culture or the great poets and philosophers thoroughly, my knowledge about this great man is very limited. Here,I am paying tribute to this great man on the occasion of his 150th birth anniversary.

Rabindranath Tagore was born on 7th of May 1861 in Calcatta, British India. He was the ambassador of Indian culture to the rest of the world. In fact, he probably is the most prominent figure in the cultural world of Indian subcontinent. He also is the first Asian to be awarded the Nobel Prize. Even though he is known for his poetical works, he bombarded his ambidextrous talent up on novels, short stories, dramas, articles, essays, paintings, philosophy etc. His songs are popularly known as 'Rabindrasangeet' which have an eternal appeal and are engraved in the heart of Bengalis all around the globe. He was also a social reformer, a patriot and above all, a great humanitarian who wrote the National Anthems of 'India' and 'Bangladesh'.

Tagore's creative output tells you a lot about this renaissance man.The variety, quality and quantity of this creative genius's creations are unbelievable. His life and work go far beyond his country - India-. This great man is truely a product of the best of both traditional Indian and modern Western cultures. With his life and work, he taught us the meaning of goodness and to be a true humanitarian.

We salute thee for thy teachings!

"I have become my own version of an optimist. If I can't make it through one door, I'll go through another door - or I'll make a door. Something terrific will come no matter how dark the present."
